Petrobras’ Tupi asset reaches 4 billion boe production milestone
The Tupi asset in Brazil’s Santos Basin pre-salt has reached cumulative production of 4 billion barrels of oil equivalent, Petrobras said. The offshore asset also surpassed average oil production of 1 million barrels per day again in 2026.
Petrobras said the Tupi asset in the Santos Basin pre-salt has produced a cumulative 4 billion barrels of oil equivalent, making it the first asset in the company’s 73-year history to reach that threshold. Tupi also exceeded average oil output of 1 million barrels per day again in 2026, having first achieved that level in 2019.
Tupi was the first pre-salt production system to begin commercial operations, in 2010. The asset is operated by Petrobras with Shell and Petrogal Brasil as partners, while PPSA represents the Brazilian government in the Jazida Compartilhada de Tupi shared reservoir.
The milestone underlines the continuing importance of large-scale deepwater production to Petrobras’ portfolio. Under its 2026-2030 business plan, the company expects the pre-salt could account for as much as 82% of its total production during the period. Petrobras projects combined oil and gas production of between 3.1 million and 3.4 million boe per day through 2030, supported by reservoir management, production-efficiency improvements, increased water-injection efficiency and the identification of new opportunities.
Petrobras said it operates 57 production platforms, including 28 dedicated exclusively to the pre-salt. The release also featured the P-66, P-67 and P-69 platforms operating in the Santos Basin pre-salt, although it did not provide unit-level production data.
