Búzios Gas Exports Reach Record 10.8 Million Cubic Metres per Day
Petrobras said average natural gas exports from the Búzios field reached a record 10.8 million cubic metres per day in July 2026, followed by a daily record of 14.1 million cubic metres on August 6. Upgrades to existing production platforms, rather than the addition of new systems, drove the increase.
Natural gas exports from the Búzios field averaged 10.8 million cubic metres per day in July 2026, exceeding the previous monthly record of 9.1 million cubic metres per day set in March. Petrobras also reported a daily record of 14.1 million cubic metres on August 6, up from 13.9 million cubic metres per day in July.
The growth came from optimizing existing production infrastructure rather than starting additional production systems. A modernization program covering the gas-treatment plants on P-74, P-75, P-76 and P-77 has replaced CO₂-removal membranes, raising each platform’s gas-export capacity from about 1.5 million to 3 million cubic metres per day. The program began in 2025 and is nearing completion, with further process adjustments offering potential for additional gains. FPSO Almirante Barroso also contributed to the field’s export performance.
Petrobras said further capacity will come from systems planned for P-78 and P-79 by 2027. Eight of the 12 platforms envisaged for the completed Búzios development are expected to have gas-export capability, including the planned Búzios 12 unit. That unit is scheduled to begin operating in 2032 with estimated export capacity of 5.5 million cubic metres per day. The expansion strengthens Búzios’ role in supplying associated gas to Brazil while increasing the value recovered from the field’s existing production infrastructure.
