Petrobras Confirms Deepwater Gas Discovery at Sandia-1 Offshore Colombia
Petrobras has confirmed a gas accumulation at the Sandia-1 exploration well in Colombia's deepwater GUA-OFF-0 block. Drilling began on June 12, 2026 and reached final depth on July 29 in 1,251 meters of water, approximately 42 kilometers offshore. Petrobras International Braspetro B.V – Sucursal Colômbia operates the consortium with a 44.44% interest, while Ecopetrol S.A. holds 55.56%. Well-log and laboratory analysis will be used to characterize the gas-bearing intervals.
The confirmed change is the identification of gas-bearing intervals at Sandia-1, adding another discovery near the Sirius-1, Sirius-2 and Copoazu-1 wells offshore Colombia. Petrobras has not disclosed reservoir volumes, commerciality, a development concept or a timetable for appraisal and development. The continuing evaluation of well data means the scale and recoverability of the accumulation remain unresolved. From a market perspective, the result strengthens the evidence for a wider deepwater gas cluster and could eventually support further appraisal drilling, subsea work and development studies.
