Equinor signs three-year Johan Sverdrup crude supply deal with ORLEN
Equinor has agreed to supply ORLEN with between 5 million tonnes and more than 9 million tonnes of crude annually under a three-year agreement beginning in early September. The arrangement primarily covers Johan Sverdrup production and could provide as much as one-quarter of ORLEN’s annual crude requirement.
Equinor has signed a three-year agreement to sell crude oil from the Johan Sverdrup field to Poland’s ORLEN, with deliveries scheduled to begin at the start of September. Annual volumes will range from 5 million tonnes to more than 9 million tonnes, while other crude grades produced on the Norwegian continental shelf may also be supplied. The remaining commercial terms were not disclosed.
The crude is intended for ORLEN’s refineries in Poland, Lithuania and the Czech Republic. ORLEN said the Norwegian supply could account for up to one-quarter of its annual crude requirement, strengthening its access to stable sources amid volatility in global energy markets.
Johan Sverdrup is the highest-producing oil field on the Norwegian continental shelf. Its facilities use power from shore, which Equinor said gives the field substantially lower production-related carbon dioxide emissions than the global average.
The agreement adds to Equinor’s wider energy activities in Poland. Equinor and Polenergia are developing the Bałtyk offshore wind projects in the Baltic Sea, while Equinor subsidiary Wento is expanding a Polish portfolio covering solar power, onshore wind and battery storage.
