Carlyle Completes Acquisition of Altera Infrastructure’s FPSO Business
Carlyle has completed its acquisition of Altera Infrastructure’s FPSO business, which will continue operating under the Altera name as a standalone floating production company. Led by CEO Chris Brett, Altera plans to pursue organic growth and strategic acquisitions across the offshore energy market.
Carlyle has completed its acquisition of Altera Infrastructure’s FPSO business, establishing the operation as an independent company focused exclusively on floating production solutions. The acquired business has also secured the Altera Infrastructure brand and naming rights and will continue trading under the Altera name.
Altera said it begins this phase with a strengthened balance sheet and a portfolio of operating FPSO and FSO units serving offshore oil and gas regions including the North Sea, Brazil and West Africa. The announcement did not identify individual assets, customers or the financial terms of the transaction.
Chris Brett has assumed the role of chief executive and will lead a newly established executive leadership team covering commercial and major projects, operations, finance, legal, and people and culture. Backed by Carlyle’s investment and sector expertise, Altera intends to pursue both organic expansion and strategic acquisitions. That strategy could make the company a more active participant in future floating production tenders, asset investments and portfolio transactions.
